The Reunion of the Known and the Unknown
As Anthony mentioned, a lyric project has been on my mind lately.  I hope to do a few more pieces of this nature.  This first one is inspired by Bright Eyes and the song “Lime Tree” off of Cassadaga.  Its an incredible track that is hauntingly beautiful that I have loved since my high school years.  Basically I took the last two lines of the song and used them to inspire a short piece...

Sir Links a Lot, Have at You!
Hey everybody, hope you’re having a wonderful end of March.  As Anthony mentioned, we have both been influenced by song lyrics as of late and I’m working on a music realted post for Thursday.  Anyways, for now here are my usual sweet links.  Please, we encourage everyone to comment and share The Compass, let us spread like wildfire…for the children…not like burning...

Stars and Stripes
Luke and I were talking the other day and it turns out that roughly around the same time, we both independently came up with the idea to write something that contained song lyrics.  Most people forget that lyric writing is just as challenging, if not more, than fiction and poetry.  However it all fits into the same conversation when mixed together.  So this is my driving prose with a soundtrack....

Hey everyone! I actually have stuff to post this week so it won’t be a waste like last time!  Wooooo!  Here’s some cool stuff. -Anthony ——- 1.  The new Strokes album “Angles” is out.  Go get it.  Tis awesome. 2.  Related: Here is Metacritic’s spring album preview. 3.  Know the enemy: How Nanotechnology Works. 4.  This is a vampire hunting kit that...

morerobots asked: I am writing this in regards to Paul's most recent post about the recent awe-inspiring hit Friday, in which he criticizes that there are two lines referencing breakfast. I do believe that the reason she takes up two full lines discussing breakfast is because breakfast is the greatest thing on earth. I'm actually disappointed that there aren't MORE lines regarding breakfast.

Tuesday Tidbit: The Internet's Influence
Hello all. If you’re like me, you’ve been overwhelmed by the latest Internet sensation, “Friday” by Rebecca Black. If you haven’t heard the song or seen the video, please check it out. It will make Thursday’s post much more comprehensible if you’re aware of the latest viral video. I recently found a website devoted to the Garfield comic strip, but with a...

Let's Waste Some Time
Since my last week posting on the Compass, I’ve really tried to get back into art. I’ve been sketching and stuff, but nothing really substantial. And while the Compass has been motivating me with the monthly deadlines, I still needed to lock down a little more so I FINALLY got my own Tumblr up and running HERE!!  I only have a few posts, but once I get more comfortable with it, I hope...

Lunch at the Mall
“Let’s get one thing straight,” he sputtered, “I’m not paying you to sit down and scribble on a goddang napkin!  Now get your lazy behind back to work.”  With that, Mr. Treebly wandered off towards the office, shaking his baldhead with disbelief.  Harry didn’t like disappointing the old man, and jumped up quick.  He jammed what would certainly be a masterpiece someday down into the pocket of his...
